THE GRANDPOP RECORDS STORY (short version)

GRANDPOP RECORDS was officially founded by three angry "young" music-loving men in the fall of 2003. LASSE KURKI, JUSSI JAAKONAHO and MARKUS NORDENSTRENG are all well-known figures in the artic pop scene, and their craftmanship can be heard on standout albums by bands/artists such as Lemonator, The Latebirds, Egotrippi and Jonna Tervomaa.

The initial imprint, idea and philisophy behind Grandpop were born way back in 1997 when Lasse and his band Lemonator released the band's first EP. Another EP followed a year-or-so later and then Grandpop Records went to sleep for a few years. In 2003 Lasse decided to activate the label and released the two albums he had been producing for The Latebirds/Latebird. Both albums, "FORTUNE COOKIES" and "LATEBIRD", got rave reviews and great feedback from the record-buying hipsters in their homeland.

Since Lasse is known to be a rather busy individual, he decided to ask his friends producer/guitarist Jussi Jaakonaho and singer/songwriter Markus "Latebird" Nordenstreng to join forces with him. Both men said "yes" to his proposal and Grandpop became an official company/trademark in November 2003.

Grandpop Records (Mark II) first release is LAIKA & THE COSMONAUTS new studio album in almost seven years, LOCAL WARMING (released in Finland January 16th 2004). Other releases in 2004 included the debut album by Finnish-singing pop band VOLUME, as well as the highly anticipated debut album by Scandinavian action jazz favourites NIEMINEN & LITMANEN. Tuure Kilpeläinen and The Tunes are the latest Grandpop recording artists.

Sky is the limit!
